We went to Roice Hurst Humane Society and helped walk dogs and socialize with both and cats and dogs. Animal abuse and abandonment is a global problem and this is why we chose this organization. They were very thankful for our support as they are always looking for volunteers. We assured them we would be coming in once a month for our school project.
This blog is dedicated to my group's IB CAS project for 2013-2015. We will be volunteering two to three hours a month at Roice Hurst Humane Society and documenting our learning experiences on this page through photos, videos, and written reflections. Summer 2014 we will host a rummage sale of collected donations. The proceeds will be given to Roice Hurst Humane Society.

Our Plan
Each month, along with planning for the rummage sale in
summer 2014, Abby Bridgett, Karen Prather, and I (Liz Cottingham) will visit Roice Hurst each
month and volunteer for the shelter and the animals. When there during their
visiting volunteer hours, will walk dogs, wash dogs, play with cats, and
help in whatever areas needed. For the planning of the rummage sale, we will
use the facility of a church parking lot although we still need to communicate
with the church about that. Throughout the year, we will advertise by posters,
newspaper articles, Facebook/Twitter, and possibly the radio. We will designate
a day before the sale for people to bring their things to us, we will store the
donations in the church before the sale, and people from all over can donate
their clothes, furniture, accessories, and even money. Before the sale, we will
price things and organized them for the sale. The day of the sale, we will have
signs leading to the church from major roads and have everything set up in a
part of the parking lot. The sale will begin in the morning around 8 and end
around 3. All money that we make will go to the Roice Hurst Humane Society. Any
extra donations will be donated to the Latimer House/Salvation Army. Because
this project doesn’t take up 18 months, we will continue to go to Roice Hurst
each month until the end of our senior year when CAS projects are due. For our
monthly reflections, we will use videos, pictures, and written reflections via
blog to communicate our progress.
